Sheffield was chosen for the world premier screening of the new Doctor Who series. Members of the general public were not admitted to the press only event but there there were plenty of fans queueing for the chance to meet stars of the long running television series. Many were dressed as previous incarnations of the Doctor and even a few women dressed as the new Doctor. I decided not to wait around for the plastic to be taken off the red carpet. Then quite by chance as I wandered back through the city I stumbled upon the new Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, being interviewed for breakfast television!
I can remember the very first episode of the very first Dr Who series, all those years back – William Hartnell, on black and white telly. A 🙂
I must confess I’m not a big Doctor Who fan but from the days of shaky scenery to high tech CGI it has lasted well and now attracts a global audience. I like that the new Doctor is a woman. I remember the original theme music and opening credits which at the time seemed quite other-wordly!
Some of the new series was shot in Sheffield so when you see city backdrops from a high vantage point they will probably be Sheffield. I was stood taking some photos the other day when a Doctor Who fan advised me I was in the spot where Bradley Walsh shot a scene!
