It was one of the first questions I asked the police. I wouldn’t have published photos and would have felt uncomfortable taking pictures if I knew that lives were at risk. The smoke could be seen for miles around. Up close I’ve never seen such dense smoke. The warnings were for people in the path of the smoke plume to stay in their homes and shut their windows. There were worries that the smoke was carrying asbestos but I’m sure it must have been carrying all sorts of toxic particulates. Luckily it was a hot day so I think the smoke remained quite high. Thanks for your comment 🙂 Reply This fire was actually at the Reclaim depot. Reclaim do excellent work both in recycling waste in Sheffield and also in providing opportunities for people with learning difficulties. They used to be based up Wadsley Bridge way, I did some photography and design work for them back then. I hope this doesn’t set them back too much as like any similar operation they rely on support and funding. They don’t seem to have a website but the BBC covered the story on their local news web pages: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-23364890 Reply Thank you for taking the time to offer such an informative comment and the link. I have heard of Reclaim and like yourself it would be good to think they can get up and running soon. I was just pleased no one was hurt in the fire. Had it been a week day it could have been a lot worse. Reply Please leave your comment in the box below Cancel reply Enter your comment here...
